How can you care about health care costs and support John Edwards?
For those of you who are unaware, John Edwards is a predator, he and his fellow trial laywers prey on the medical community, feasting on contingency awards of 30% – 40%.
Doctors, hospitals, nursing homes and the entire medical community pay excessive insurance costs to protect themselves from personal injury lawyers. Insurance companies and drug companies are besieged by these cretins, passing on the expense to the consumer.
With jury awards looking like lotto pay-offs, is it any wonder how predators like Edwards, are gazillionaires, as a result?
For those of you who have had needless cesarians, thank John Edwards.
Democrats fight tort reform and don’t want you to know that the USA is the ONLY country in the world where you can file a frivolous law suit and lose, not have to compensate the innocent party for their legal expenses and loss of reputation. In other countries, the loser pays- these country’s courts aren’t filled with frivolous suits- thanks John Edwards!
Don C- you failed to mention how much loot Edwards collected for exploiting the tragedy you cited; we have laws to make companies behave, we don’t need bounty hunters, most of them target money, not injustices; but only a socialist would think we need trial lawyers to keep (evil) business controlled.

Good point! And I would argue that some of the problems we have regarding affordable health care are due to some wrongheaded government regulations. I can’t see how having the government get much MORE involved would improve things. Just the opposite.

All that is based upon the premise that trial lawyers are the major cause of the rise of health care costs. I reject this. OTOH I believe that trial lawyers, although there are frivolous suits, do help a great deal in holding the medical community responsible for their errors and mistakes. The fox cannot guard the hen house.

If Republicansget their wayand “tort reform” is ever passed, you can bet the big companies will take advantage of that and be even less responsible with products that they put out to the American public, forsaking our safety for PROFIT !!!
Most people on here are clearly the types who deride Edwards simply for being an “ambulance chasing trial lawyer” but of course that’s because they’re simply parroting back the drivel they’ve been spoonfed all their lives. Here’s a summary of Edwards’ most famous case:
John prosecuted a claim on behalf of a 3 yo girl whose intestines were literally sucked out of her body when she sat down over a powerful suction pump in a kiddie pool which was inadequately covered by a flimsy plastic piece, leaving her dependent on medical assistance which would cost her and her family millions of dollars during her lifetime.
Testimony from pool design expert witnesses showed that a sturdy suction cover could have been provided at a cost of only an additional 25 CENTS, yet the defendants chose to utilize the flimsy plastic piece TO SAVE A MEASLY 25 CENTS PER PUMP.
That’s how much businesses care about you. Your safety wouldn’t be worth 25 CENTS to them if it weren’t for people like Edwards.

Predator? You mean he sued large corporations on behalf of individuals who were hurt by said companies because of their neglegent acts. Gazillionares? Did you type that with a straight face? You fail to mention that people who were injured for life also received compensation which allowed them the continued healthcare they needed because of these companies caring more about profit over safety.
And the “needless cessarians”? Not true, you cannot blame John Edwards for women not wanting to have their schedules affected by a due date that may not be accurate or doctors who would rather not deal with ours of labor.
How do you know his lawsuits were “frivolous”? A little girl having her intestines sucked out of her bottom because a flawed pool drain cover? And if he lost these suits, he would not be paid a dime, you don’t mention that either.
And don’t talk about the poor insurance and drug companies who have billions of dollars worth of lobbyists to keep us from having universal healthcare. When profit is chosen over what is best for a patient they’ve failed. Life or death should never have anything to do with profits. The poor hospitals? The poor doctors? They have insurance, they have litigators and they have jobs waiting for them after these lawsuits.
The person who is harmed by their neglegence? They do not have the same backing and have to hire lawyers on their own and may lose their jobs in having to care for a loved one who is hurt by these doctors. Mistakes happen, that’s the risk we take and no one should be blamed for an HONEST mistake.
And I believe that if someone loses a lawsuit they should have to pay for the attorney fees of the person they’ve sued, this would dramatically cut down on irresponsible lawsuits.
Your language shows that you are not objective and I question the motives of even asking this question, it’s a loaded one indeed. Seems like you just want to lecture rather than really get an honest response from anyone.
