These injury lawyers that advertise on tv, are they really going after the person that caused the injury?

Hand puppet pet asked:

or the insurance company that assumes the liability? and doesn’t this drive up the premiums. This along with government regulation restricts activity and progress in all fields and hurts doctors the most. They add to the nanny state of sheepish wimps. So rather than planning and doing, we just sit and watch and grow fat dumb and not really happy.
Yes it is wise to have coverage, all I’m trying to say is that there are too many ambulance chasing lawyers. We knew this back when they were not allowed to advertise on tv.

I have been there and they go after the insurance company. If you had been run over by someone and spent ten days in the hospital and missed seven months work what would you do? I didn’t have the 80 thousand to pay for the hospitals and my lost income should count for something also. If you are minding your own business and wake up in an ambulance not knowing why I think maybe you would be a little pissed also.

Yes. They are fishing for people who have or can claim an injury but who haven’t hired a lawyer. Of course, they also hope to get those who have worthy claims, too. Sometimes, the sucker ends up with less than what they would have received on their own. Sometimes more.

There’s gold in them thar ills.

They go after the insurance policy.

In the vast majority of cases….the person that caused the accident does not own a pot to pizz in.

Those lawyers usually take 1/3 of any settlement you get as their fee. In some of these contracts, if the lawyer files suit…his fee goes up to 1/2 of any settlement you get.

A lot of what we incurred was settled in a prompt equable manner, mainly because it was a silly thing to bring lawsuit over. That has changed mainly because in my opinion, we have too many law graduates and paralegals that are prone to ‘make work’ We need another change to make the one that files a frivolous lawsuit and loses be made to pay all costs. especially the retained governmental attorneys.

It’s unfortunate to hear about your situation. I was injured once in Vermont when a delivery truck backed over my right foot at work. My employer attempted to settle with me quickly because they knew it wasn’t my fault. I called a nearby accident lawyer in my city who gave me excellent advice and I was able to get a small settlement to cover my medical bills that weren’t covered by my primary insurance. I’d find a personal injury in your area. My personal injury lawyer was willing to answer any and all questions I had because they hope to make some money at the same time. Try calling a lawyer to see if they can help.

Sorry to hear about your situation.
